Calling for International Intervention in Israel

Recently, the UN found Israel guilty of terrorist actions against the Palestinian People; those included crimes against humanity. Despite the open policy of ambiguity on the issue by the State of Israel, Vanunu proved to the world that Israel possesses Weapons of Mass Destruction. Israel in 2008 is not different from Iraq in 2003.

The situation is ripe for an international intervention in Israel. If the invasion of Iraq in 2003 was legal, then the same step must be taken against Israel. If the international community claims to be intellectually honest, there is no other solution.

“Israel is not Iraq,” some may answer immediately and will continue: “it would bee too difficult and expensive.” That’s not so. The IDF is less strong than it seems and suffers from serious strategic drawbacks. The task is possible.

The only question is who should lead the new coalition.

The Americans are out of the question. They provide for years the cluster bombs and flechette artillery shells used by Israel in Palestine and Lebanon, as well as unlimited diplomatic support for Israel’s crimes. Moreover, the recent record of America in Iraq, Afghanistan, and to be true around half of the world, calls for keeping them out of international issues, regardless the party running that country.

Britain and France need to explain the reasons for their extraordinary vote in the Goldstone Report; and have thus excluded themselves for the task.

The developing military relations between Israel and Egypt exclude the last of leading such a coalition, though this country would be very important in the imperative blockade against the IDF naval forces and Zim – Israel’s main supply line. Other regional powers would probably meet a very strong international opposition: they would be important allies but not more than that.

Russia is out of the equation. Nobody wants to see the Groznyfication of Israel and Palestine, just the creation of a truly democratic society.

The answer is surprising, but unavoidable. The only society that enjoys at the present moment enough international prestige, size and credibility for such task is Germany.

I do call the international community to demonstrate its equal assessing of human life – regardless its ethnic group or religion – and to intervene in Israel so that the ongoing terrorism and manslaughter by this entity is stopped. The blood of the past and future victims is shouting toward us from the ground, claiming for only one thing: Justice!
